The CUCD EDI Committee: Aims and Report
The Council of University Classical Departments (CUCD) established the EDI Committee in 2020 to advance equality, diversity and inclusion in Classics. The Committee seeks to advance the following aims:
1. To foster and amplify diverse and marginalised voices within Classics
2. To connect with and consolidate other Classics EDI initiatives, activities, and organisations
3. To provide resources on equality, diversity and inclusion in Classics
4. To support a network of EDI officers in Classical departments in UK Higher Education Institutes
5. To collect data to advance equality, diversity, and inclusion issues in Classics in UK Higher Education
The Committee was established in 2020 following the CUCD Project on Equality and Diversity 2019-20, funded by UCL. For more information about the Project, see here. The Project produced the CUCD Equality and Diversity in Classics Report 2020, which was released on 16 November 2020. The Report was co-authored by Helen Lovatt and Victoria Leonard, and the launch event was hosted by the Institute of Classical Studies.
You can read the report here.

The EDI Committee of the Council of University Classical Departments (CUCD) has launched its website and related blog at cucdedi.wordpress.com.
You can access our blog from the toolbar. We welcome short blog posts (500-1000 words) on any topic related to issues of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the teaching, researching, sharing of the study of the ancient Mediterranean world and its cultural and historical reception in the United Kingdom. We are especially keen to foster, support and amplify diverse and marginalised voices within the field, to provide a platform for sharing different visions of the present and future of our studies and to develop different strategies for overcoming some of the challenges we are facing in terms of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at all levels of education in the country. The blog will function as a platform to showcase initiatives, activities, and organisations already engaged with the advancement of EDI-related matters in the study of the ancient world in the United Kingdom – so if you are already involved in fostering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the field, please do get in touch! Anonymity and Pseudonymity may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
